Photo By James Welling Photo By Casey Tyler

For this assignment I took pictures from a walk that I had and edited them to not only match the composition of some of James Welling's Photos, but the mysterious feel that they gave off. I found that this photo was my most successful because it captures that whimsical feel that the leaves of the plant are hiding something right underneath them. I think that the colors have a fun variety to them, and by using a lot of the same type of leaf you can see the individual marks on each and how they all come together to create a beautiful scene. I think the most challenging part of this assignment was finding an artist who inspired me. While I found a lot of the photos visually stunning they often felt unattainable too with my skill, but when I saw James's collection, "Imagining Flowers," I saw photos that I felt I'd seen familiar subjects. In the future I think I just need to look more when I'm out and about. Im normally in a rush or trying to do two things at once and forget to look around and get inspired. My favorite thing about this class was that it made me take the time to get outside, walk around, and be creative.
My comment on Emma Wheat's Blog:
"Hi Emma! The photo you took looks really good! I think you match the attitude and feeling of the original photo very well. By using the black-and-white filter with a model in front of a white wall you were able to capture the shadows behind her that add a lot to the photo and really brings it all together! I think if you were a little more zoomed out to capture her whole stance it could show her in an athletic stance, which would connect back again with the original. Your other photos for this assignment look great as well! Nice job!"
Hi Casey! I loved all of your pictures! I think that you did a great job at mimicking James Wellings style and picked great aspects of nature. The vibrant colors of the leaves really make the image come together. I also love how you can see the various layers of leaves, great job! I think that playing with the sharpness and including various textures of leaves could be interesting as well!
